The Flower Hub at Pauntley is a new business venture (est. May 2024) our main aim and mission being to supply top quality British seasonal local flowers grown in accordance with organic principles, to be sold wholesale to local florists for local events and retail purposes.  Thus, reducing costs of time and transport, reducing environmental impact, championing British flowers, and making it easier for florists to choose them.

How The Flower Hub at Pauntley works

On a Sunday, by 6pm all growers will add what flowers and what quantity they would like to sell the following week onto the website.  These flowers will need to be in perfect condition either for an event the following weekend, or for retail.  There will be an indication of whether event or retail when you receive your picking list.  Farmers must therefore know when to cut and how to condition these flowers for both event and retail floristry.

When you upload a particular flower, you will need to specify the cultivar, colour should then come up automatically, but you will need to add your stem length.  It is important then that you cut all your stems to that length, if that is what you are offering.  Obviously, a longer stem won’t be an issue!  If the cultivar is not in the flower library, please contact Jules and she will put it on for you.

Pricing is the next stage.  As it is against the law to price fix amongst a group, you must come up with a reasonable price for a wholesale stem of that flower.  There are places like Clowance and BJ Richards you can check for guidelines, ask us at the hub, but you cannot undercut everyone else in the hope of selling your flowers first. If unsure, please get in touch with the collective to get a guideline.  We will add you to the WhatsApp group.  We aim to offer a premium product so it should be priced as so.

The website goes live at 7pm on Sunday for florists, so if you haven’t put your flowers on by 6pm it is too late to add any for that week.

On Tuesday evening  after 5pm you can log on to the website and find your picking list if your flowers have been bought.  You will need to cut them either that night or Wednesday morning and they need to be delivered here on a Wednesday.  GL19 3JA is the postcode.

This is the same for the new opening time for mid-week events and retail.  Flowers need to put on the website by 9pm on a Thursday night, Pick lists available when the shop closes at 5pm on a Saturday and delivery on Monday morning by 2pm.

Costs and Invoicing

Once the flowers have been collected and there are no issues, you can use your picking list to invoice The Flower Hub at Pauntley.  It needs to specify what you have sold less the 10% charge which will be going to pay off the website and the hub costs.

If you are vat registered please invoice for the full amount and you will receive an invoice back for the 10% of the net amount and then you will be paid the difference.

Flowers

Need to be bunched in 10 per florist order (unless otherwise specified) and different coloured twine used to tie up with.  You will be given a colour to buy and use.

Phototropic flowers need to be wrapped.

Remove any marked leaves, buds, petals, flowers, bugs and foliage below the water line.

Double check each for quality

Triple check against your picking list that you have the right flowers and the right numbers.

The hub is just an agent to sell your flowers through, you are solely responsible for the flowers you are selling through the hub.  Quality control starts with you.  Any flowers not deemed suitable or good enough will be rejected.  If this happens consistently you will no longer have access to the hub.

There will be clean buckets available to put your flowers into in the flower barn.

Rejects from the florist

If your flowers are rejected by the florist, they will be given a full refund, including the admin fee.  This admin cost will be charged to the grower.

Order Fulfillment

If you don’t have what you promised on the Sunday when entering your flowers:

Can you offer an alternative?

Find another grower that can sell theirs instead?

Put it out on the hub WhatsApp group.

Contact the florist to find a solution.

This is your responsibility, not the hub’s.

Once you have sold your flowers, you are then in a contract with that person to cut, condition and deliver a quality flower.  They will have been paid for once you get your picking list, so you need to make sure you have entered correctly onto the website and that you can produce what you are offering.  This is paramount and your responsibility.

Photography

At the moment there are ‘borrowed’ photos of flowers from the internet, so each week we will be endeavouring to create our own photo stock and so a heads up of photos of new flowers that aren’t on the website yet would be helpful for the admin team.

Minimum Orders

There is no minimum order for supplying flowers or minimum order for buying, so you will have to be prepared that some weeks you may only be supplying a few bunches.  You need to take this into consideration when adding your flowers to the website, working out if it is worth your while and what value stems it is worth supplying.  You can also adjust the bunch size so you are only supplying a volume you are happy to provide.

You may wish to consider collaborating with other growers located closest to you to gather your orders together and take turns with the weekly drops to The Flower Hub at Pauntley.
